Venus ist der zweite Planet des Sonnensystems und als Morgen- bzw. Abendstern nach Sonne und Mond der hellste Himmelskörper. Sie leuchtet weißlich am nächtlichen Himmel. Sie dreht sich, verglichen mit den anderen Planeten, rückwärts, was auf einen kosmischen Zusammenstoß zurückgeführt wird. Auf ihr herrschen Temperaturen von +482 °C. Der atmosphärische Druck ist 19mal so hoch wie auf der Erde. Die Atmosphäre besteht vorwiegend aus Kohlendioxid, Stickstoff und Wasserdampf und gleicht damit der Atmosphäre der Erde vor ca. 4 Milliarden Jahren. Stürme fegen alle vier Tage um den gesamten Planeten. Venus ist umhüllt von einer dichten Wolkendecke, die verhindert, daß die eingedrungene Sonnenwärme wieder ins Weltall entweichen kann (Treibhauseffekt).
In der Mythologie ist Venus die Göttin der Schönheit.
Das aus drei Teilen zusammengesetzte Foto nahm die Sonde Mariner 10 auf, am 5. Februar 1974.

Venus is the second planet of our solar system. As an morning or evening star, Venus is the brightest celestial body after the sun and the moon. Venus shines whitely in our nightly heaven. Perhaps due to some cosmic collision, it appears to travel backwards. Temperatures of +482°C exist on its surface and the atmospheric pressure is 19 times higher than on earth. Its atmosphere is similar to that of the earth about 4 billion years ago. It consists mainly of carbondioxyd, nitrogen, and water vapor. Every four days storms sweep over the entire planet. The dense clouds surrounding Venus prohibit the sun’s heat from escaping into space, producing a greenhouse effect.
Venus is the mythological goddess of beauty and bloom.

Vénus est la deuxième planète du système solaire. Etoile du matin ou du soir, c'est l'astre le plus lumineux après le Soleil et la Lune. Elle brille d'une lumière blanchâtre dans le ciel nocturne. Elle tourne autour de son axe dans le sens opposé à celui des autres planètes, ce que l'on attribue à une collision dans l'espace. Il y règne une température de +482 °C.
La pression atmosphérique est 19 fois plus forte que sur Terre. L'atmosphère est principalement composée de dioxyde de carbone, d'azote et de vapeur d'eau, et s'apparente ainsi à l'atmosphère terrestre d'il y a environ 4 milliards d'années. La planète entière est balayée par des tempêtes tous les quatre jours.
Vénus est enveloppée d'une dense couche de nuages, qui empêche la chaleur solaire de se redissiper dans l'espace (effet de serre).
Dans la mythologie, Vénus est la déesse de la beauté.
